Amanda Davied enters her seventh year as head women’s basketball coach at Pittsburg State University in 2024-25 after being hired to the position on May 21, 2018. She has a 115-58 (.665) record leading her alma mater.
Davied guided her alma mater to a berth in the 2018-19 NCAA Division II National Tournament in her debut season, becoming the first Pitt State head coach in program history to enjoy a 20-win season in year one of their tenure (21-9). She led the Gorillas to a 17-11 overall record in 2019-20, a 14-9 mark in the Covid-19 abbreviated 2020-21 campaign and a 16-13 record in 2021-22. The 2022-23 season would see a return to the NCAA Division II National Tournament as the Gorillas finished 23-8 and reach the semifinals of the Central Regional.
2023-24 was historic as the Gorillas won the MIAA Tournament for the first time in program history and advanced to the third NCAA Division II National Tournament under Davied. Davied also became the quickest coach in school history to win 100 games during the season, at No. 3 Central Missouri on Dec. 16th.
Davied, who served the previous 14 seasons as the assistant coach for her alma mater, replaced her former mentor, Lane Lord, who accepted the head coach position at NCAA Division I member University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
As the Gorillas top assistant the previous 14 years, Davied served as the team’s recruiting coordinator and was highly involved in all aspects of the administration of the women’s basketball program.
During her tenure on the Pitt State staff (2004-present), the Gorillas have compiled a 398-218 overall record (.646), capturing an MIAA regular season title in 2017, MIAA tournament title in 2024 and making eight trips to the NCAA Division II National Tournament (2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2023 and 2024) including a pair of Elite Eight appearances (2012, 2016).
Davied began her coaching career as a graduate assistant for the Gorilla women’s basketball program in the 2003-04 season, after completing a decorated playing career for Pitt State the previous season. She was hired as a full-time assistant in July 2004 by former head coach Steve High and remained to serve as the top assistant on Lord’s staff when he took over the program in April 2007.
The Farlington, Kan., native scored 1,299 points in 109 career games, finishing her career as the school’s ninth-leading all-time scorer. She also set Pitt State records for career assists (553) and career free throw percentage (.844, 313-for-371).
Davied also excelled in the classroom, earning third-team CoSIDA Academic All-District honors her senior season. She also was a three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and a three-year MIAA Scholar-Athlete selection.
Davied earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education from Pittsburg State in December 2003. She completed her master’s degree in physical education in December 2008.
